Summer 2010 Newsletter

Hello Philomusica family & friends

Summer is flying by quickly, and going well. Our picnic and recital planned in June had to be relocated because of the rain, so we held the recital indoors, where else, but at our new Philomusica performance hall. The recital went very well with over 100 people in the hall. Everyone had a good time enjoying an hour long recital and picnic indoors afterward.

New Performance/Lecture Hall available for rent

Our new Philomusica performance and lecture hall, designed by master Interior Designer Katarina Bolshakova (KB Designs), accommodates close to 100 people and is now available for rent to interested parties independent from Philomusica. The close proximity to Whole Foods and its unique ambience makes it the ideal meeting facility. Talk to us about your plans.

Summer classes

Regular classes and lessons are ongoing throughout the summer.  We believe that summer is a great time for practice and improvement. While many families are going on vacation and attendance can be sporadic, students are still able to have lessons at Philomusica during the summer weeks. Summer fees are pro-rated and based on the weeks that you can attend. So don’t hesitate to continue your summer lessons.

Fall registration fees by July 15

Classes and private lessons are filling up fast. We would like to accommodate children with siblings attending at the same time so families can save time and make a single trip to Philomusica. However, spaces are limited, especially on popular days and times. Our annual fall registration fees are due by July 15, 2010. Please pay your registration fees soon to reserve your places, and get your schedule requests to us to avoid disappointment.

Philomusica closed August 16 to 29 when school starts

There will be no classes and lessons from August 16 to 29, 2010. Philomusica will take a two-week break when school starts, to enable students to get settled in their first two weeks at school. During this time, we will check phone messages periodically. Please contact the Philomusica office early to confirm your fall schedule. Classes and lessons at Philomusica will resume on Monday, August 30, 2010.

Violin Performance Workshop on Sunday, August 15

Our Philomusica violin students will have the privilege of participating in the performance workshop with our guest master violinist, Alvaro deGranda. The workshop will start at 3pm on Sunday, August 15, 2010. Students are required to play a violin piece and Mr deGranda will provide tips for students to improve on their performance.

About Alvaro deGranda:

Mr deGranda was in the Cleveland Orchestra as assistant concertmaster. Over the years, Mr. deGranda has performed in the United States, Europe, and Latin America, and has participated in the Aspen, Casals, and Marlboro music festivals.

Thinking of beginning violin lessons or are you an intermediate student? Please call us if you would like to attend the workshop or take violin lessons.

Wishing you a great summer.
